My Not So Well Kept Secret

In a recent post on Facebook, Adam Longworth from F.M. Entertainment out of Indianapolis, Indiana, thanked me for turning him on to a book called The Go-Giver. Previously, others have written to me about this little book saying it has been life changing and others have said that it helped them truly discover their purpose on this earth.

So, why haven’t I written, here on this blog, about such a momentous little read?

The Go-Giver, written by Bob Burg and John David Mann, is a book I have been wanting to write about here for a long time. For one main reason though, I have avoided sharing about here.

Anything I write about this book will fall short of how incredible a book it truly is.

As such, my fear has always been that I would write something about it here, but that it would not motivate enough of you to read it. Sure, some of you might add it to a list and better yet, some of you might even buy it. But even then, only some of those people might actually read or listen to it (audio books are amazing…if you aren’t a fan of reading). So, without being absolutely sure that I could get a lot of you motivated enough to read it, I avoided the topic altogether.

(Terrible reason, I know, but I’m being honest here.)

It is bizarre to think that I avoided the topic of a book that spoke to me so deeply, that when I first listened to the audio version, I did so twice in a two-week span. I have never listened to an audio book more than once, much less in the span of just 14 days. I have now read and listened to it upward of 10 times in the past 2 years.

The Go-Giver is a very easy and fun book to to fly through (2 – 3 hours reading for most people or just over 2 hours in audio book format). It is also brilliantly written from a very intelligent point of view and frame of reference about some of the most basic human conditions that are often forgotten along the way of life, both personally and professionally. The authors describe it as “A little story about a powerful business idea.”

“Most people just laugh when they hear that the secret to success is giving. . . . Then again, most people are nowhere near as successful as they wish they were.”

~ Pindar, from The Go-Giver

The entire book is actually just a short story about a guy named Joe who meets a man named Pindar. Joe is a guy who is struggling to make his sales quota at work and Pindar, through a variety of remarkable stories and exercises with Joe, shares what he calls, The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success.

Because it is so ridiculously brilliant (and fun!), I want you to discover the story one page at a time on your own, so I won’t describe anything else about it here. Suffice to say though, this book will be nothing like you expect. It is short, easy to read, and you will probably want to start it over again the moment it ends.

Please read this book.

Once. Twice. Maybe more.

Listen to the audio version.

Borrow it from your local library.

Order it online.

Drive to a bookstore!

Do what you need to do to get this book now. Your personal and professional life will thank you for it, as will each and every person you touch and interact with on a daily basis.

Since first sharing about this book on my personal Facebook page, the story of Joe and Pindar has sent ripples out across the landscape of my friends and colleagues. I have received home delivered mail and private messages thanking me for the recommendation.

DJ industry friend, Chris Romero, from Cutmaster Music in Albuquerque, New Mexico, once wrote me a lengthy message about something he’d done since beginning the book and he ended his message by saying:

“Sorry about the long post, but I haven’t even finished the book and I can already see how ‘giving’ will probably change my company and life forever.”

So, what are you waiting for?

Confirm my fear from earlier and don’t read it. Or, surprise me, and read it.

If you read this book (or have already), please let me know how it made you feel and then share this post/book title with a friend. You might change their life.

Just a thought…
